To our Miami Community,
Wow, what an amazing year this has been. When we launched in August of 2018, we stepped out on faith and went straight to work. It has been an exciting but at times difficult year but through it all, we have learned and grown so much! We want to reflect with you on our past achievements and let you know our plans for the future!
We first want to thank our four local non-profit organizations that sign up as our founding partners. They helped provide volunteer opportunities and allowed us to help spread the word about their cause. A huge thank you to The Overtown Youth Center, Health in the Hood, Honey Shine, Inc. and Urban Promise Miami. It has been an honor to support their cause as they make a tremendous impact in our community.
During our community research and after meeting with community members, we realized how big of an issue Human Sex Trafficking is in Miami. We quickly realized it was something we wanted to bring awareness to. After our “Sex Trafficking: A Miami Story” event in October and our “Modern Slavery in Miami” event in January, it was very humbling to see the interest of those who attended to learn more about this huge issue so they can do their part to stop it. We want to thank Kristi House, No More Tears, Glory House and Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade for their expertise and support. We especially would like to thank Ms. Jessica T. White, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Expert, for her time, dedication and knowledge to not only educate us but help us bring awareness about today’s Modern Day Slavery. This is a local and nationwide issue that we want to continue to bring awareness to. Stay tuned for future events!
We want to acknowledge community heroes that encouraged and supported us along the way. Thank you Jamie Levenshon-Najman with 100 Women Who Care, Holly Woodbury and Abraham Metellus with the Caribbean Marketplace and to the many others we crossed paths with that shared their knowledge, wisdom and thoughts with us.
As we continue on this journey of uniting, informing and inspiring Miami, we are excited for what the future holds. We will continue to support our local nonprofits, bring awareness of local social issues and encourage civic engagement for our community.
Thank you all for your support during our first year, we look forward to bringing you
along with us as we grow!
With much gratitude,
Xiomara Napoleon and Amy Senat
